Unita Blackwell's Story

Unita Blackwell was rescued from Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier with 3 seperate fishing hooks attched to flippers. Unita also presented with a fibropapilloma tumor on her front flipper. She made a full recovery and was released. Unita Blackwell was hooked off the Deerfield Beach Fishing Pier for a second time and brought up with a rescue net.

2021-Dec-30 Radiograghs were taken and 1 hook was found to be stuck in her GI. Mineral oil will be given in food to hopefully help hook pass. 
2021-Dec-29 Rescused for a second time from the Deerfield Beach Fishing Pier and brought to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. Begin supportive medications and completed diagnostics bloodwork. Removed 1 hook from front flipper.
2021-Jul-9 Released at Red Reef Park
2021-Jun-25 Surgery site healing well, applying honey and cleaning with chlorhex. Offering graceleria and thalassie, eating most of it.
2021-Jun-22 Surgery to remove Fibropapolloma tumor from front flipper.
2021-Jun-14 Offering vegitarin diet, no protein similar to fishing bait.
2021-Jun-12 Rescued from Deerfield Beach and brought to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. Begin supportive medications and completed diagnostics bloodwork and radiographs. Removed all 3 hooks.
