Punch's Story

Punch was rescued from the Daytona Beach, FL and transported to Gumbo Limbo by a Volusia County Marine Science Center volunteer. Punch presented with severe laceration to the carapace (top of shell) from a vessel strike, and fibropapilloma tumors near her front and rear flippers.

2021-Jan-05 Continue anemia treatments. FP removal surgery pending healthy bloodwork parameters.
2020-Dec-05 Attach temporary weights to help control bouyancy issues. No longer floating.
2020-Dec-01 Begin treatment for anemia. Move to large therapy tank to encourage diving.
2020-Nov-10 Wounds debrided by the veterinarian. Healing well. FP removal surgery pending healthy bloodwork parameters.
2020-Oct-26 Wound is sealed and healing well. Discontinue wound VAC and dry docking. Doing well in water.
2020-Oct-19 Continuing Wound VAC. In water for a few hours per day to eat. Floating and passing solid stool. Dry dock with bandage overnight.
2020-Oct-13 Wounds cleaned by veterinarian. Healing well. Reapply wound VAC bandange to continue negative pressure therapy.
2020-Oct-07 Severe lacerations to carapace. Wounds cleaned thoroughly with disinfectant, and wound VAC bandage applied. Dry docked turtle while Wound VAC therapy applied. Begin supportive medications.
