Mojito's Story

Mojito was rescued from the Halifax River near Port Orange, FL and transported to Gumbo Limbo by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Mojito was presented with severe lacerations to the carapace (top of shell) from a vessel strike, and fibropapilloma tumors near her front and rear flippers.

2020-Dec-11 Released in Vero Beach, FL.
2020-Dec-08 Finished course of medications. Approved for relese by Veterinarian.
2020-Dec-01 Wound debrided by Veterinarian.
2020-Nov-24 Tumor removal surgery performed. Apply honey to surgical sites daily.
2020-Nov-17 Wounds debrided by Veterinarian. Active throughout the day.
2020-Oct-27 Increase water depth to encourage diving. No signs of floatation.
2020-Oct-19 Wound VAC bandage removed. Edges of wounds sealed and healing well. Able to dive and sit on the bottom. Eating well.
2020-Oct-13 Wounds cleaned by Veterinarian. Healing well. Reapply wound VAC bandage to continue therapy. In water for a few hours per day to eat. Dry dock with bandage as needed.
2020-Oct-06 Severe lacerations to carapace. Wounds cleaned thoroughly with disinfectant, and wound VAC bandage applied. Dry docked turtle while wound VAC negative pressure therapy applied. Begin supportive medications.
