Koala, along with several hundred other sea turtles were cold stunned in the New England area in 2020. Cold stunning can cause shock, pneumonia, frostbite, and can lead to death if the sea turtle cannot migrate to warmer water in time. Koala was rescued from Cape Cod, Massachusetts and received treatment at the New England Aquarium before being flown to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center to continue her recovery.
