Flea's Story

Flea was rescued from Palm Beach, FL with fibropapilloma tumors and wounds indicative of shark bite injuries. There are multiple bite wounds on the right back portion of the carapace and she is missing most of her rear right flipper.

2020-May-1 Veterinarian prescibed euthanasia due to CT scan results and health decline.
2020-Apr-28 Begin total parenteral nutrition (TPN) due to lack of appetite and nutrition.
2020-Apr-24 CT scans taken to follow up on internal progress.

2020-Apr-20

X-rays taken to follow up on internal progress. Continue honey treatments.
2020-Apr-10 Routine wound debridement. Honey applied to deep wounds and sealed with beeswax. Carapace wrapped to contain it in water. To be changed every couple days. Continue MLS laser.
2020-Apr-3 Routine wound debridement. Continue MLS laser and honey treatments.
2020-Mar-24 Veterinarian partially amputated the tip of the right rear flipper and sutured manuka honey infused sponge to wound. Dead tissue removed from deep bite wounds on plastron. Manuka infused sponge and hernia mesh sutured into plastron wounds. Begin tube feeding due to lack of appetite.
2020-Mar-20 Wounds debrided of dead tissue by veterinarian to promote healing and growth of healthy tissue.
2020-Mar-10 Started on MLS laser therapy of wounded area daily. Wounds cleansed with disinfectant scrub and honey application to be given daily. 
2020-Mar-5 Discontinue wound V.A.C. negative pressure therapy. First day in water at low tank height. Healing and behavior is improving. 
2020-Mar-3 Veterinarian used mess dressing to seal off wounds.
2020-Feb-24 Veterinarian sutured wounds on rear flipper and soft tissue around plastron. Continue V.A.C. negative pressure therapy and dry docked. 
2020-Feb-22 Rescued from Palm Beach, FL covered with fibropapilloma tumors with multiple predator wounds. Applied wound V.A.C. bandage and started negative pressure wound therapy. Started on antibiotic medications. Dry docked to protect wounds.
