Beaker's Story

Beaker was rescued from the Jupiter Inlet, FL and transported to Gumbo Limbo. Beaker presented with severe laceration to the carapace (top of shell) from a vessel strike, and fibropapilloma tumors near her front and rear flippers and eyes.

2021-Sep-07 CT revealed internal lung tumors. Veternarian perscribed humane euthanasia. Necropsy performed by medical staff.
2021-Aug-29 Lethargic behavior observed. CT scan ordered.
2021-Jul-23 Minor FP removal surgery performed for small tumor on neck.
2021-Jun-12 Active and eating well. Resting on bottom.
2021-May-11 FP removal surgery performed by veternarian. Apply honey daily.
2021-Mar-18 Transferred to Gumbo Limbo.
2021-Mar-15 Stranded in North Palm Beach.
2021-Feb-24 Released in Hobe Sound, FL.
2021-Feb-16 Cleared for release by veterinarian.
2021-Feb-09 FP removal surgery performed by veterinarian. Apply honey to surgical sites daily.
2021-Feb-02 Swimming and diving well in larger tank.
2021-Jan-26 Eating well and active. FP removal surgery pending healthy bloodwork parameters.
2021-Jan-05 Veterinarian debrided wounds and removed sutures. Wound healing treatment applied.
2020-Dec-22 FP removal surgery pending healthy bloodwork parameters and complete recovery from flipper removal surgery.
2020-Dec-15 Wounds are healing well. Continue supportive medications and daily honey application.
2020-Dec-08 Surgery performed to remove the right front flipper. Apply honey to surgical site daily.
2020-Dec-01 Right humerus degrading. Veterinarian prescribed amputation.
2020-Nov-20 CT Scan. Clear of internal tumors. Continue Wound VAC.
2020-Nov-17 Wounds debrided and cleaned by Veterinarian. Healing well. Reapply wound VAC bandange to continue negative pressure therapy. Right humerus severely fractured.
2020-Nov-06 Severe lacerations to carapace. Wounds cleaned thoroughly with disinfectant, and wound VAC bandage applied. Dry docked turtle while wound VAC therapy applied. Begin supportive medications.
