Yaxley's Story

Yaxley was rescued from Cocoa Beach, FL, lethargic and covered in barnacles. She was brought to the Brevard Zoo Sea Turtle Healing Center and later transferred to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. Several internal infections were discovered, and after making a full recovery, Yaxley was released from Pineda Beach Park in St. Lucie County.

2019-May-21 Released at Pineda Beach Park in St. Lucie County
2019-May-10 Discontinue MLS laser therapy and honey treatment.
2019-Apr-16 Change honey treatment duration to 15 minutes daily. Continue MLS laser therapy.
2019-Apr-10 Discontinued antibiotic medications. Continue wound care.
2019-Mar-02 Peeled areas of keratin beginning to fill in. Carapace is becoming less sensitive. Continue wound care.
2019-Feb-21 Began MLS laser therapy daily for carapace wounds.
2019-Feb-19 Began nebulizer treatment daily for lung infection.
2019-Feb-13 Barnacles caused keratin to peel off of carapace. Began honey & silver sulfadiazine treatment daily.
2019-Feb-12 Transferred to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center and started on antibiotic medication. Freshwater bath to remove barancles.
2019-Feb-11 Rescued from Cocoa Beach, FL and taken to Brevard Zoo Sea Turtle Healing Center
