Nebula's Story

Nebula was rescued from St. Lucie, FL after suffering a boat strike injury. Radiographs revealed fractures to the carapace. Nebula initially presented with floatation issues related to the boat strike injuries. Nebula is receiving antibiotics, fluids, and MLS laser therapy, and will be monitored closely while the carapace is healing and floatation issue resolves.

2019-Oct-25 Intermittent therapy in deep tank to encourage diving behavior with weights attached.
2019-Sep-6 Continues to struggle with buoyancy. Added weights to carapace again.
2019-Aug-10 Monitor flotation issues.
2019-Jul-26 Observed minor flotation issues. Radiographs confirmed gas in GI. Begin treatment for gas.
2019-Jul-11 Temporary weights removed from carapace. Continue monitoring.
2019-Jun-22 Adjusted temporary weights to counteract flotation issues.
2019-May-28 Wounds healed. Discontinue MLS laser therapy and antibiotic medication.
2019-May-21 Boat strike injury debrided. Wounds healing well.
2019-May-04 Floatation issue persists despite wounds healing well. Temporary weights affixed to each side of carapace to help with flotation issues.
2019-Apr-30 Boat strike wounds debrided and cleaned. Healing well.
2019-Apr-11 MLS laser therapy started on carapace.
2019-Mar-29 Transferred to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center and started on antibiotic medication. Carapace wounds debrided and cleaned.
2019-Mar-28 Rescued from St. Lucie, FL after a boat strike injury and taken to Loggerhead Marinelife Center.
