Nebula's Story

Nebula was rescued from St. Lucie, FL after a boat strike injury. She came to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center with carapace wounds and flotation issues. Nebula's carapace is healing and she is working on and regaining normal buoyancy.

2019-Aug-10 Continue MLS laser therapy. Monitor flotation issues.
2019-Jul-26 Observed pulling herself down to the bottom of her tank, but still has minor flotation issues.
2019-Jul-13 MLS laser therapy restarted on rear carapace. Added honey treatment as well to help strenghten shell.
2019-Jul-11 Weights removed from carapace. Seems able to sit at the bottom of the tank but occasionally floats rear up. Continue monitoring.
2019-Jun-22 25 gram weight added to left side of carapace to counteract flotation issues.
2019-Jun-18 Observed holding head to the left side when swimming. Continue monitoring.
2019-May-28 Discontinued MLS laser therapy and antibiotic medication.
2019-May-21 Boat strike injury debrided. Dead bone removed.
2019-May-04 50 gram weights affixed to each side of carapace to help with flotation issues.
2019-Apr-30 Boat strike wounds debrided and cleaned.
2019-Apr-11 MLS laser therapy started on carapace.
2019-Mar-29 Transferred to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center and started on antibiotic medication. Carapace wounds debrided and cleaned.
2019-Mar-28 Rescued from St. Lucie, FL after a boat strike injury and taken to Loggerhead Marinelife Center.
