Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is proud to announce the winners of our logo contest, held in early 2011! We received dozens of entries. In all, there were four elements that were consistently represented: the ocean, trees, butterflies, and turtles. Each entry had anywhere from one to four of these elements in their design, each portrayed differently. Although we were unable to decide on one design submission, we were able to use different elements from three different entries to piece together a final design.
The use of the tree branch extending from the “L” in “Limbo” came from Lisette Buiani from Boca Raton, Florida. Gumbo Limbo’s Exhibit Coordinator Kimberly Mohlenhoff designed the leaf pattern of the tree branch to match that of a gumbo limbo tree. Portraying a turtle in the center of the letter “O” was the idea of Allen Boitz, from Dover, NJ. We chose to incorporate the butterfly in the same manner. The use of a double wave at the bottom logo was incorporated from the entry by Jamin Clore, also from Boca Raton, FL.
All three winners were invited to Friends of Gumbo Limbo’s Sea Coast Toast, held on November 18, 2011, for the official debut of the new logo and to receive their prizes.
We received many contest entries from children. These entries will be on display at Gumbo Limbo for our Sea Turtle Day, which will be held on March 3, 2012. Thank you to everyone who participated in our contest!
