Toscana is one of our newest patients that arrived on November 13, 2013. She is juvenile green sea turtle that was washed ashore on Highland Beach. Upon a thorough examination, it was apparent that she was suffering from a severe infection. She has severely infected open cavities on her plastron; at this time the cause is unknown. She is missing her left front flipper from what appears to be an entanglement and has a laceration on her posterior end which is likely from a boat strike. As if this wasn’t enough, she began passing monofilament and pieces of plastic trash bags in her fecal a few days ago. Toscana is currently undergoing treatment in the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Facility.
