Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is offering a variety of program over the winter break.   Please note reservations & prepayment required at least 24 hours in advance, (561) 544-8615. No refunds.


Secrets In The Sand
Ages 7-11. Adults must sign-in children, but do not have to stay. It comes from broken shells, protects the mainland from erosion, and is fun to play in. Come enjoy this program about beach sand and create a sand castle. Dress for a mess!

Wetlands & Wildlife
Ages 7-adult. An adult must sign-up and participate with children. Wakodahatchee is a man-made wetland which has become a favorite for birders and photographers. Bring your binoculars and join us for a ¾ mile guided boardwalk tour to learn more about Florida’s wetland ecosystems. Meet at the boardwalk’s entrance (call for directions).

Mangrove Paddle
Ages 7-Adult. One adult required per child. Experienced canoers, learn about Florida’s rare mangrove ecosystem on a naturalist guided tour on the boardwalk at Rutherford Park, followed by a paddle through the mangrove trails and along the shoreline of the Intracoastal. You will be delighted as you explore this little slice of wilderness within a city park. Experience is necessary; call for requirements.

Beach Treasures
All ages. An adult must sign-up and participate with children. Limpets & topsnails are a few of the shells you can find on Florida’s beaches. Meet at the Center to learn about seashells and the animals that make them. Caravan to Red Reef Beach and search for ocean treasures.

Poison & Venom, Beware!
Ages 7-11. Adults must sign-in children, but do not have to stay. Did you know there are poisonous plants all around us? How about animals? Don’t miss this opportunity to learn all about them and what you should do if you should find one.

Butterfly Gardening For Kids
Ages 7-11. Adults must sign-in children, but do not have to stay. Turn your own back yard into a butterfly garden! Do you know which plants draw butterflies in like a free all-you-can eat-buffet? Learn how to attract a variety of Florida butterflies to your own personal backyard butterfly garden.

Seining the Lagoon
Ages 10-adult. An adult must sign-up and participate with children. Explore the grasses and flats of the Intracoastal Waterway behind Gumbo Limbo. Hand-held dip nets and large seine nets allow us to catch and release a variety of fish, shrimp, crabs, and other marine life.

Little Wonders
Ages 3 & 4 with an adult. Take this opportunity to introduce your novice naturalist to the plant and animal communities all around them, through hikes for little feet, crafts for tiny fingers, stories for growing minds.
