Family Programs

Please click on a program title below for additional information, including age restrictions, fees, and registration information.  Please also click on "Family Programs" for additional programs appropriate for children. Please be aware that for most programs, an adult must participate with children and teens under the age of 18.  Specifically, an adult must sign-up, attend, and pay the program fee. Please read the registration information for each individual program.  Some programs require pre-payment, other programs accept pre-payment but will accept walk-ins if there are openings. Programs are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather. Payment may be made by cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. There are no refunds unless a class has been cancelled by Gumbo Limbo Nature Center.

Halloween in the Hammock

Spooky stroll through the north trails, what will you find? Spiders...butterflies...snakes on your mind? Maybe pirates, wizards, a grim reaper or two…don’t fret, it’s all in fun, and your guide won’t leave you! Save a species, that’s the plan…IF you are brave enough, you can! Join us for an hour-long nighttime nature walk (new route this year!) with ghostly guides and ghouls.

Beach Treasures

Limpets & topsnails are a few of the shells you can find on Florida’s beaches. Meet at the Center to learn about seashells and the animals that make them. Caravan to Red Reef Beach Park and search for ocean treasures.

Seining the Lagoon

Explore the grasses and flats of the Intracoastal Waterway behind Gumbo Limbo. Hand-held dip nets and large seine nets allow us to catch and release a variety of fish, shrimp, crabs, and other marine life.

Sea Turtle Release

Date: November 14, 2013 4:30 PM
Location: Spanish River Park
"Harp" the loggerhead sea turtle is ready for release! Join us this Thursday, Nov. 14, at 4:30 pm to witness her return to the ocean. Park at Spanish River park for free, and enter the beach through the center tunnel. Arrive early as the release is quick! All ages welcome, no RSVP required!

Wakodahatchee is a man-made wetland which has become a favorite for birders and photographers. Bring your camera and binoculars on this ¾ mile guided boardwalk tour to learn more about Florida’s wetland birds and ecosystems. Meet our Gumbo Limbo Naturalist at the Wakodahatchee Wetland’s boardwalk entrance.
