Group Tours

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is undergoing construction to replace our four large outdoor sea tanks. We are offering self-guided tours for camp groups this summer, beginning with a session in the classroom to instruct campers and chaperones on where to go and what to look for. A scavenger hunt around the park will both entertain and teach the campers about barrier island habitats.

Our .3-mile boardwalk loop with 40’ observation tower, Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center, butterfly garden, FAU observation deck, north trail, and indoor Nature Center are all still open and available for you to explore. Adults and children enjoy learning about coastal Florida inside the Nature Center, with our interactive displays and live animals (snakes, hatchling tortoises, musk turtles, hermit crabs, and golden orb weaver spider).

Visit our Gift Shop, located in the Nature Center, which sells not only tee shirts and books, but a wide variety of educational toys and “Green Living” products.  For staffing purposes, we do require advanced notice for groups shopping with children; an adult chaperone must assist children with their purchases.

Beginning in the fall of 2011, Gumbo Limbo will be offering 1½ -hour guided educational group tours. You will learn about sea turtles, local flora and fauna and tour our coastal hammock forest on a 1/4 mile boardwalk. Our 40’ observation tower provides a beautiful bird’s eye view of the island, from ocean to Intracoastal.

All groups are required to register in advance (no drop-ins please). Tours are scheduled based upon availability of staff and facilities. Please call Susan Elliott at 561-338-1542 for more information or to request a tour.  There is a $5 per child donation request for both guided and self-guided group tours.
